Under Carlos Corberan, he has not only established himself as a mainstay in
the first squad but has also been in fantastic form, aiding the Baggies in their
bid for promotion to the English Premier League.
Johnston has scored seven goals in 14 appearances since making a temporary
switch in January, earning plaudits from supporters, pundits, his fellow
teammates and manager.
Not only that but it was announced this week that he has won the English
Championship Player of the Month award for March.
Questions are now being asked about what the winger’s future holds. Will
Celtic look to cash in or bring him back to Lennoxtown to see if he can make a
renewed push into Brendan Rodgers’ team
Based on the manager’s remarks today, it appears that before determining
Johnston’s transfer status, Celtic will want to see what he can do in the
preseason.
In a press conference, Rodgers stated, “I’m very happy for him because he’s a
young guy that I always said I rated highly”
“He’s faced difficulties in the last few years due to injuries and needing to play
on loan.”
“Just show that you’re fit and have the level of fitness to sustain and train
every day and be able to be available for games,” I told him throughout the
first half of this season.
To be fair, he accomplished it, and by the end, he was helping us. But as a
twenty-four-year-old, he truly needed games and the opportunity to play
outside. It is not surprising what he has revealed or demonstrated.
He’s among the top prospects to come out of the academy, as I’ve said before.
