The greatest recognition in the field, Magnet designation, was recently
awarded to the nursing staff.
The nurses at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center have been granted Magnet
Recognition by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
The award is thought to be the standard for exceptional nursing, and the team
found out they had won it on February 15.
The ANCC’s Magnet Model, which offers a framework for nursing practice,
research, and outcome measurement, is used to evaluate organizations. The
quality of nursing leadership, coordination and collaboration amongst
specialties, and procedures for evaluating and enhancing the standard of care
are among the components that make up the model.
A written patient care documentation, an on-site visit, an electronic
application, and a review by the Commission on Magnet Recognition are all
part of the demanding process to become Magnet recognized.
The Chesapeake Regional Medical Center nursing staff needed over four years to finish it.
Amber Egyud, chief operations and nursing officer at Chesapeake Regional,
stated, “I think the Magnet designation has given our organization recognition
of the excellence we know already exists here among all of our care professionals.”
Egyud attributed the success to the nursing staff’s professionalism,
collaboration, and patient care.
“They take great satisfaction in presenting the most up-to-date research in
nursing techniques to ensure that we surpass expectations with regard to high-
quality care,” stated Egyud.
Hospitals that have been awarded the Magnet status by the ANCC are said to
have better patient satisfaction and survival rates.
Nurses also report higher levels of job satisfaction, which Egyud thinks applies
to her team as well.
“Even though we’re a mid-size hospital, everyone knows each other when you
go down the corridors,” Egyud remarked. “And our first priority is each other,
followed by our patients.”
Although Egyud is pleased with the team’s performance, she also believes that
Chesapeake Regional’s high caliber of care makes the honor well-deserved.
“It’s a testament to the dedication our staff has demonstrated to our
community and their unwavering commitment to putting our patients’ needs
first,” Egyud stated.
Attaining Magnet accreditation, Chesapeake Regional Medical Center now
stands with 9.4% of hospitals across the country.
