The Red Sox are undergoing significant transformation following yet another
AL East last-place result.
The Boston Globe reports that the organization fired Carlos Febles, the coach
of third base and infield, and pitching coach Dave Bush on Monday.
The Red Sox manager, Alex Cora, announced a week ago that the team plans
to enhance player coaching.
“We just met with our coaching staff an hour ago, and the main focus of our
discussion was how we can help our players get better,” Cora stated. “In order
for them to be better, you have to be willing to modify what we have attempted
to do over the last few years.”
The Red Sox are changing drastically after finishing last in the AL East once more.
According to the Boston Globe, the team fired pitching coach Dave Bush and
third base and infield coach Carlos Febles on Monday.
A week ago, Alex Cora, the manager of the Red Sox, declared that the
organization would improve player coaching.
“We just had an hour-long meeting with our coaching staff, and we mostly
talked about how we can help our players improve,” Cora said. “You have to be
willing to change what we have tried to do over the last few years in order for
them to be better.”
According to Statcast, the Red Sox finished lowest in both runs allowed (-40)
and outs over average (-50) this season.
Cora clarified that the lack of success in 2023 was not due to a lack of effort,
but the figures might have played a role in the choice to move on.
We did a lot of things we don’t generally do, as you folks who followed us the
entire season witnessed. I know people talk about the coaching staff. It was
unsuccessful. It’s not a lack of knowledge, effort, or attempting. It’s up to us to
always looking for methods to improve,” Cora remarked.
