Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Pittsburgh Steelers are sending
quarterback Kenny Pickett to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for draft picks.
As he begins his third season in the NFL, Pickett was expected to challenge
Russell Wilson for the starting position in 2024. But now that Pickett has been
traded to Philadelphia, the team has moved on, and Wilson appears to be the
starting quarterback this year.
In return for Pickett and the No. 120 pick, Schefter reports that the Steelers
will receive the No. 98 pick and two 2025 seventh-round picks.
As the team’s first-round selection in 2022, 25-year-old Pickett has started 24
games and posted a 14–10 record in those roles. In addition to throwing 13
touchdowns and 4,474 yards, he has also thrown 13 interceptions.
Wilson is the only quarterback the Steelers have left after Pickett’s departure.
In addition to possibly looking at the NFL Draft for a rookie backup, they’ll
probably try to add another option in free agency.
Wilson agreed to a $1.2 million one-year contract in Pittsburgh. In order for
him to stay the starter going forward, the Steelers would need him to sign a
contract following the season.
