Draymond Green, a big for the Golden State Warriors and a former standout
player at Michigan State, might have had the worst take of the NCAA
Tournament. The four-time NBA champion said that Zach Edey, the top center
for Purdue, “quit” during the national final on Monday.
Samson Johnson of UConn fouled out of the game after playing just five
minutes, and Green acknowledged him during Monday’s game. He said that by
“doing his job” against Edey, the 7’4″ center was forced to “leave” the match.
Fun fact: Edey ended with 37 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 blocks in the game. In
the second half, he scored twenty-one points.
“Well Done, 35! “You performed well tonight,” Green stated on X. “He was the
one who forced Edey to leave with roughly 19 minutes remaining in the second
half. A turnover occurred, and I observed Edey’s body language as she walked
back. He was through. Now go back and rewatch the entire game.
Though Green is more experienced than most of us, that still seems like a crazy
opinion. Throughout the game, Edey scored 37 points, and this season, he has
recorded a double-double in every NCAA Tournament game. The two-time
National Player of the Year never seemed to be on the verge of leaving the Boilermakers.
After defeating Purdue 75–60, UConn won their second straight national
championship. Edey was one of the main reasons the Boilers made it to the
national final for the first time since 1969.
Edey averaged 25.2 points, 12.2 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per game in his last
campaign. As the program’s all-time top scorer and rebounder, he departs Purdue.
Upon leading Purdue to the national championship game this season, Lance
Jones, a graduate transfer, had a unique message for Boilermaker supporters.
Ethan Morton, a senior at Purdue, has registered his name on the NCAA
transfer portal. The 6-foot-7 wing played for the Boilermakers for four years.
As a graduate transfer, he has one more year of eligibility.
