Going to cause a stir’: Explosive rumour revealed after leaked text slams Latrell Mitchell

An explosive suggestion has hit the rugby league rumour mill claiming the Roosters played some part in a leaked text message that ridiculed Latrell Mitchell.

Nine’s Danny Weidler revealed on 100% Footy the scuttlebutt doing the rounds in the wake of a Rodney Churchill text to the South Sydney chairman making its way to media over the weekend.

Outlets including the Sydney Morning Herald became privy to the message, which was supposedly sent to Nick Pappas in May but was somehow leaked ahead of the Rabbitohs playing the Chooks in a blockbuster round 27 clash this week.

Where was the human headline Mitchell tonight Nicholas? Missing again, this was his big game apparently? Your club will not win another comp for another 40 years if this imposter remains at Souths,” the Churchill text said, which was sent following their Indigenous Round loss to the Eels this year.

He is a complete myth who has the Aboriginal cause paramount and South Sydney second, if at all. I hope you and family are well. Nothing was done and now this cancer that is Mitchell has ruined the club.”

Weidler confirmed there is no suggestion Rabbitohs chairman Pappas was responsible for leaking the message.

Churchill is the son of Rabbitohs legend Clive Churchill, and he presents the medal named in his father’s honour which recognises the player of the match on NRL grand final day.

The reports on Sunday dropped a bombshell on the Bunnies and now Weidler has revealed a surprise twist to the story.

“I think this message was sent to several people, and obviously once it gets sent around it can end up with a person like myself,” he told 100% Footy.

“I do think South Sydney are of the belief that in some way – and this is going to cause a stir – the Roosters helped this get out there, and they are playing (each other) this week.

“That’s a theory that is coming out of Souths. I’m not saying it is (true), but that’s a theory that is coming out of Souths, (an attempt to) destabilise Latrell.”
