Jennifer Batten’s Cover of Jeff Beck’s ‘Cause We’ve Ended as Lovers’ Is the Perfect Homage to the Late Guitar Legend

“To honor and celebrate the world’s greatest guitarist, myself and some amazing musicians have put together our own version of ‘Cause We’ve Ended as Lovers.'”

Guitar virtuoso Jennifer Batten has always been pretty open about her love for Jeff Beck’s work. And now, in honor of what would have been Jeff’s 80th birthday, the former Michael Jackson shredder got together with a few other superb musicians to do a cover of Jeff Beck’s legendary “Cause We’ve Ended as Lovers.”

The piece, written by Stevie Wonder, was originally recorded by Stevie Wonder and his then-wife Syreeta Wright. The song was then given to Jeff, who turned it into an instrumental. Ever since it came out in 1974, it’s been considered as his landmark piece.

“To honor and celebrate the world’s greatest guitarist, myself and some amazing musicians have put together our own version of ‘Cause We’ve Ended as Lovers,'” Batten writes in the video’s description. Joining her on this cover are Dudley Ross and Greg Koch on guitars, Alex Bennett on keyboards, George Abrehart on drums, and Grace Lamb on bass. You can check this cover out below, with Jennifer and this lineup of musicians paying the perfect tribute to one of the most influential guitar players of all time, who left us on January 10, 2023.
